Carla Gugino is a world-class thief in the first teaser trailer for Cinemax’s upcoming crime drama Jett. After taking some time off on the original series front, HBO’s little sibling is getting back into the swing of things, delivering new programs like the Bruce Lee-inspired Warrior and preparing for the final season (again) of its action-packed military drama Strike Back. And now it looks as though the network is ready to switch gears a bit (but not too much) with the crime drama Jett.

The series has been flying under the radar to a certain degree, which is understandable given that it’s not Game of Thrones, Big Little Lies, or any of the other high-profile new series being promoted over at HBO. Instead, the little premium channel that could has taken the opportunity to make a very stylish splash with the first teaser trailer for the new series that, in addition to Gugino, stars Better Call Saul’s Giancarlo Esposito, Elena Anaya (Wonder Woman), Michael Aronov (The Americans), Gaite Jansen (Peaky Blinders), Chris Backus (Big Little Lies), Gil Bellows (Patriot), Jodie Turner-Smith (Nightflyers), and Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage) among others. The show also features a Haunting of Hill House reunion as Gugino is joined by Violet McGraw (who played young Nell) in the new series.

As far as teasers go, Jett certainly impresses with its visual style and tone that’s convincingly conveyed in under 30 seconds. In addition to seeing Gugino in a variety of disguises, the brief promo illustrates Esposito’s skill when it comes to creating villains who’re impossible not to like. He barely has a line of dialogue here and he already feels like a major draw for the series. Check out the teaser for Jett and a brief synopsis below:

It certainly looks as though Jett will make a welcome addition to the growing lineup of Cinemax originals, while offering something a little different than what’s come before. It also feels as though this series might be a win for anyone still sore over the cancelation of the Gugino-starring Karen Sisco back in 2004.

“JETT stars Carla Gugino (San Andreas, The Haunting of Hill House) as world-class thief Daisy “Jett” Kowalski. Fresh out of prison, she is forced back into doing what she does best, and a cast of morally ambivalent, dangerous and eccentric criminals, from budding femme fatales to compromised law enforcers, are determined to exploit her skills for their own ends.”
