Chris Evans hilariously reminds Robert Downey Jr. about Captain America and Iron Man’s lingering conflict in Captain America: Civil War. Portraying two of the founding heroes of the MCU, the actors are expected to play a pivotal role in the upcoming fight against Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Endgame hitting theatres next month.

After being kept apart in Avengers: Infinity War, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers have yet to see each other. They came to blows at the end of Civil War when Stark found out about Rogers’ lie regarding knowing that Bucky was the culprit behind the death of Stark’s parents. Prior to Tony learning about this heartbreaking detail, he was already in conflict with his co-Avenger about the Sokovia Accords. However, the heroes will have to set aside their differences on the heels of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ defeat against Thanos, who successfully wiped out half of life in the universe using the completed Infinity Gauntlet. While it’s still unclear how they will reunite, especially with Tony stuck in space with no hopes of being rescued, it’s already confirmed that he’ll eventually make it way back to Earth for the reassembly of the original six Avengers.

But even before that happens on the big screen, Evans is already reminding fans of the unresolved conflict resulting in Cap handing over his iconic weapon by the end of Civil War. This came after Downey posted artwork of their characters using the shield as a makeshift umbrella. Downey captioned his social post: “BFFs let you share their umbrellas,” tagging his co-star. Evans quoted it on his own Twitter account, adding: “Technically it’s YOUR umbrella. But I’m happy to hold it.”  Viewers can remember that after their brutal final fight in Serbia, Tony told Steve that the “shield doesn’t belong” to him because his father made it, prompting the super soldier to leave it with Tony. Fans of the MCU are loving the interaction between the two beloved actors, although this is not the first time that they did this. Several cast members from the franchise are active on social media, and sometimes they would go back-and-forth with each other. Just recently, Don Cheadle (War Machine) reacted to Evans’ supposed definitive ranking of chips. However, considering Tony and Steve’s dynamic on screen, people are particularly hyped up when Evans and Downey engage with each other online. If anything, these simple engagements are an effective way to promote Endgame which will debut next month.

This will only get fans excited for Cap and Stark finally seeing each other again after two years (or even more) following Captain America: Civil War. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that they were set to come together in the early drafts of Infinity War, but they ultimately decided against it, saving their much-awaited reunion for Endgame. Much has already been said about the possibility that Thanos may have been defeated if only the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were operating as a unit - something that will be either proven or not in the Phase 3 capper. Regardless, considering that the upcoming film is tipped to be the final chapter for some, if not of the MCU’s founding heroes like Iron Man and Cap, fans should be ready to say goodbye to their favorites if worse comes to worst.
