A Captain America prank at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) inspired by Avengers: Endgame has gotten the thumbs up from actor Chris Evans. The hugely popular movie has been smashing box office records since its release just a few days ago, becoming the first ever film to gross a billion dollars - or $1.2. billion dollars to be precise - during its opening weekend.

To say that fan reaction towards Avengers: Endgame has been extreme is an understatement. The hype has reached fever pitch with reports coming in about a Marvel fan in China who had to be hospitalised due to uncontrollable sobbing after watching Endgame. Another incident in Hong Kong saw a man reportedly beaten up for loudly revealing Avengers: Endgame spoilers to cinemagoers entering a movie theatre. Now the hype has spread to prankster students at the prestigious MIT who celebrated the movie by turning the university’s Great Dome into a giant Captain America shield.

The wholesome stunt earned the students the approval of Captain America actor Chris Evans who tweeted a simple, yet supportive “Very cool!” in response to a Boston Globe article about the prank. According to local Boston media, the MIT students - who are cheekily referring to themselves as ‘hackers’ - have anonymously confirmed the prank is a symbol of their gratitude towards the Marvel Cinematic Universe whose films they’ve grown up with.

It’s a befitting (and not to mention daring) tribute to the much-loved franchise and one of its most popular characters made all the more special by the fact that Avengers: Endgame not only represents the conclusion of the Infinity Saga but also features what’s expected to be Chris Evans’ last appearance as Captain America, a character he’s played for the past eight years.

However emotional a cornerstone Avengers: Endgame is, Marvel fans shouldn’t get too downhearted. Despite Evans’ likely departure from the MCU franchise as an actor, it’s possible fans could see another Marvel character adopting the Captain America mantle in the not too distant future. There are plenty of upcoming Marvel movies to look forward to as well and the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home - the final Phase 3 movie - which is just a few months away. Over the next few years Phase 4 of the MCU will be well underway and Marvel fans will have a flurry of films coming their way including the solo Black Widow movie alongside sequels Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
