MGM is getting into the holiday spirit as they release new festive e-cards and wallpapers for their upcoming Child’s Play remake. The possessed doll named Chucky has been around since 1988 when the character first appeared in Tom Holland’s film Child’s Play. The character returned for six sequels, but MGM is revamping the character to terrorize audiences again in 2019.

The Child’s Play remake was announced earlier this year, with MGM introducing a high-tech Chucky known as a Buddi Doll. So far it seems the remake will be drastically different than the original films as Brad Dourif won’t be voicing Chucky and the origin of Chucky will also likely be completely different than the one told in the 1988 film. Child’s Play is currently in production with Lars Klevberg calling the shots as director, and Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman starring. Now that the holidays are quickly approaching, MGM has released new marketing materials for the film.

First revealed by Bloody Disgusting, MGM and Orion have released holiday-themed wallpapers, along with holiday e-cards featuring everyone’s favorite killer doll. The new promotional materials were released on the Best Buddi website, which also includes information about the new and improved version of Chucky. All of the wallpapers and e-cards can be seen below.

While a new Child’s Play movie will be hitting theaters in 2019, Child’s Play creator Don Mancini is also currently working on a Chucky TV show. The TV series will not connect to MGM’s reboot, but rather take place after the events of the 2017 sequel Cult of Chucky. The TV show is currently without a premiere date, but Mancini did reveal the Child’s Play logo when he announced the project. Many fans are looking forward to Chucky’s continued story in Mancini’s show, but many fans aren’t as excited for the upcoming remake.

The horror community is often incredibly loyal to their favorite franchises, and MGM seems to be taking a lot of risks with their remake by changing a lot of the core elements that make Chucky recognizable. It also doesn’t bode well for the film that both Dourif and Mancini seem to be incredibly against the idea of a remake. While horror fans have their concerns with the upcoming film, MGM and Orion are no doubt keeping up with marketing their film. They have already released a teaser poster for Child’s Play, and these new marketing materials are a fun way to tie horror into the holiday season.
