Focusing on Tucker’s Detective James Carter and Chan’s Chief Inspector Lee as they meet from two different sides of the world, 1998’s Rush Hour became a surprise hit. Earning an impressive $244.4 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of just $33 million, it brought the boys back for two more installments and a big question mark hanging over a fourth movie....

AirDisplay, a $10 application that lets your iPad function as a second (or third, fourth, etc.) display for your Mac/PC, was just updated to allow it to push HiDPI pixels to the new iPad. Reuters reported this morning that top brass from China Mobile, the world’s largest carrier by both subscribers and market valuation, and Apple’s head honcho Steve Jobs met “several times on introducing an iPhone based on its network standard”. Did Jobs travel incognito or was he accompanying Apple’s operations wizard Tim Cook during his China tour (snapped paparazzi-style in the shot below)? More likely, Jobs probably hosted China Mobile reps in Cupertino....

Chris Pratt promises fans that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen. At one point in its development, the project was supposed to start filming in January 2019 in order to meet a theoretical 2020 release date. However, that was before Disney fired James Gunn from the movie last summer, after old offensive tweets of his resurfaced. Now, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 remains on indefinite hold as Marvel Studios searches for a replacement....

As the tariff on many products imported from China kicked in yesterday, JPMorgan has estimated that Chinese tariffs could cost the average American $1,000 a year. Gadget lovers could be worst hit, with most tech products manufactured in China. The tariff applies to a huge range of products from milk to sports equipment, with many Apple products hit… A spokesperson for the National Retail Federation told CBS that the tariffs will raise prices for American families and hurt the economy....

Some new photos posted by Future Supplier claim to show the leaked rear casing to the rumored “iPhone 6C.” Recent reports have said that the device will sport a 4-inch screen like that of the iPhone 5, 5C, and 5S, allowing it to appeal to those who prefer smaller displays over the larger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Cheech Marin has revealed he was offered the lead role in the Super Mario Bros movie. Super Mario Bros was Hollywood’s first attempt at adapting a video game into a movie, but the production was famously messy from day one. Directors Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel decided that instead of the sunny, kid-friendly visuals of the game, they wanted to set the movie in a dystopian, Blade Runner-style city. A social media rep for China Telecom has made a Weibo post in which he echoes a number of the specs we’re expecting to see in the iPhone 6S, but says he has heard nothing to confirm the rumored option of a pink case color to match the rose gold of the Apple Watch. The post was spotted by GforGames. The fact that the rep ‘confirmed’ the 2GB RAM, improved camera and Force Touch doesn’t mean he has any hard info – these expectations have been out there since a KGI note back in May – and you’d expect China Mobile to know better than to reveal any info provided by Apple....

Version 52 of Google Chrome is now rolling out to all users via Google’s stable channel with the usual bug fixes and security patches. For Mac, the update notably adds Material Design to the browser’s top bar and other UI elements. Other changes include removing the ability to use the backspace key as a return shortcut. The Material redesign of Chrome was announced earlier this year and unifies the browser’s look with the rest of Google’s Android and iOS apps....

CISA previously said federal civilian agencies would have until December 24 to address the issue, but it noted that the latest directive “is in response to the active exploitation by multiple threat actors of vulnerabilities found in the widely used Java-based logging package Log4j.” CISA Director Jen Easterly said they are urging organizations of all sizes to also assess their network security and adapt the mitigation measures outlined in the emergency directive....

Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has a bold prediction for the future of the Apple TV. In a new report today, Kuo says that Apple will launch a cheaper Apple TV model in the second half of this year. The focus of this new model will be on improving the “cost structure” of the Apple TV. Cheaper Apple TV on the way As it stands today, the Apple TV 4K starts at $179 for 32GB of storage with a 64GB model is also available for $199....

As the Trump administration announced plans to widen the net on its tariffs on Chinese imports, China has threatened retaliatory action which could prove ‘fairly devastating’ to Apple – hitting iPhones as well as other devices … The WSJ reports that it is now not just Apple products which could be hit by import tariffs, but also the materials Apple needs to make its iPhones. Moor Insights analyst Mark Vena said that this could be serious....

Analysis of the TikTok app revealed references to Chinese servers in the code, which was subsequently removed in an update. Two security researchers have given very different perspectives on whether or not this raises any privacy concerns … The New York Times reports. TikTok itself said that the code was removed as part of a clean-up of unused features, but didn’t elaborate on its purpose. The company did say that it has not shared data with the Chinese government....
