The method I’ve found that works best (which I learned from my Mom btw), is using a dryer sheet! STOP! Before you run off and experiment, don’t use a fresh dryer sheet out-of-the-box. Those have too much of the softener and goop on them, and will smear them up. Instead, use a sheet you’ve ran through a load of laundry and use it to clean your glasses! No chemicals are required, and I’ve found it actually does a remarkable job....

iPhones are significantly cheaper in Hong Kong than mainland China, and it’s not unusual to find people smuggling them across the border. But while the record for smuggling them under clothing is around $150k, that’s nothing compared to the $79.8M worth transported with the help of drones … Reuters reports the find. Rather than fly the actual iPhones by drone, the smugglers used them to carry cables which were then used to pull the iPhones across in bags....

According to a new report from Curbed Los Angeles, Apple’s long-rumored plans to transform the neglected Tower Theatre in downtown Los Angeles have been confirmed by work permits filed with the city’s department of building and safety. While rumors of an Apple retail presence in downtown Los Angeles have been floating around since 2015, little concrete evidence has been suggested. A report in 2016 and further reporting in 2017 calling the store a “done deal” added momentum to the speculation....

China’s largest display manufacturer, BOE, is reported to be making a serious bid to win OLED orders for future iPhones. It’s said to have offered to construct not just one but two large-scale OLED production lines which would be used exclusively for Apple orders. Apple is currently dependent on Samsung for all its OLED panels for the iPhone X, a position the company almost certainly wants to change … Korea’s ETnews reports that BOE made the multi-billion dollar offer to Apple during a recent visit....
Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is surprised to hear that there are already betting odds that he will don Batman’s cape and cowl in Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman. Pratt made his debut as Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014, and he has since reprised the role in the sequel, as well as Avengers: Infinity War. Despite being another casualty of Thanos’ finger snap, he is expected to return when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters in April....

Both Google Drive and Chrome for iOS have been updated with a few new features. First, Google Drive has been updated with improved support for ‘trashing’ documents, as well as support for folder colors. With today’s update, users can now view, restore, and delete items in their trash from the iOS app....

China Mobile, the world’s largest Telecom with close to 700M subscribers, reported mixed earnings today on slow growth of its smartphone business relative to its competitors which both carry the iPhone. Chairman Xi Guohua noted this and said that talks with Apple on carrying the iPhone were progressing. “Both sides sounded keen (during recent talks),” Xi told a news conference after announcing the company’s first-half results. “Good progress was made in preparing for the commercialization of TD-LTE,” Xi said, referring to 4G “long-term evolution” network technology that may support newer iPhone models....
The 2021 edition of IFI’s Trends and Insights study found that US-based companies accounted for 150,801 of the 327,329 patents issued during the year. In a distant second place was Japan with 47,105, followed by South Korea (21,264), China (20,679), and Germany (14,663), to round out the top five. While the rest of the top five countries saw their patent approvals decline between 2020 and 2021, China’s actually surged, going from 18,792 to the aforementioned 20,679....
One Chinese man seemingly couldn’t wait for an official Apple wearable, and tried to smuggle an amazing 94 iPhones from Hong Kong – where they are cheaper – into mainland China by wearing them inside his clothes. Huffington Post reports that the man was pulled aside by customs officials as a result of his “weird walking posture, joint stiffness, muscle tension.” We don’t know the mix of models involved, but the total value of the iPhones would likely exceed $50,000, making his saran-wrapped iPhone suit one of the most expensive suits in the world....
