From the low budget indie film Following to the science fiction epic Interstellar, director Christopher Nolan’s projects seem to get progressively bigger and bigger. Since Interstellar’s release, however, it has been unknown what exactly Nolan’s next project would be. The WSJ reports that China has opened an antitrust investigation into the acquisition of Uber China by local rival Didi Chuxing. The deal went ahead a few months after Apple invested $1B in Didi Chuxing. The Chinese government has requested details of the deal, together with an explanation for why Didi Chuxing failed to apply for an antitrust review before proceeding. The company had earlier said that it did not believe Uber China’s revenue was high enough to require this....

CircleCI announced on Wednesday that it is now offering dedicated hosts for macOS development on its platform. Developers who build apps for Apple’s operating systems can now have access to macOS host machines to automate stages of the app development process. As detailed by the company, their dedicated hosts are available for 24 hours and offer “unprecedented storage, security, and scalability.” Each host machine has 200GB of storage and a 12-core CPU, which means they can handle multiple macOS and iOS builds....

Update: Apple has told CBS that all the cobalt refiners in its supply chain participate in third-party audits, and that it removes any which fail or refuse. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Tesla, and Dell have all been accused of ‘aiding and abetting’ the use of forced child labor in cobalt mines and being complicit in exposing the children to working conditions resulting in death and serious injury. The five companies are named in a lawsuit brought on behalf of both injured children and the parents of children killed in cobalt mining accidents…...

Update: The Chinese government has now confirmed this date. The iPhone looks set to be launched by China Mobile – the biggest carrier in the world’s biggest country – on Wednesday 18th December, reports the WSJ. While neither the carrier nor Apple have made a definitive announcement, China Mobile has said this is the date it will “introduce a new brand.” China Mobile posters for the iPhone 5s and 5c had leaked as long ago as September, but the deal itself has been a long time coming....

The Chinese government has removed several prominent US tech companies, including Apple, from its list of approved vendors for state purchases, Reuters reported today. The change is hardly unexpected following the government’s response to accusations several years ago that the US National Security Administration had been using backdoors in Apple products to spy on users. Yet another bank has announced today that it is launching its own mobile payment solution. At the Money20/20 conference in Las Vegas today, Chase announced that it is launching Chase Pay. Chase Pay is digital wallet solution similar to Apple Pay that allows users to pay with their phones at retail locations and online (via Re/code). There’s one notable difference between Chase Pay and Apple Pay.
