Chinese site DoNews has posted two photos of what it claims is a champagne-colored iPad Mini 2 with Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Concept photos and outright hoaxes are commonplace in the run-up to an anticipated product launch (we debunked one of these just yesterday), so there is no telling whether or not these are the real deal, but it’s obviously logical to expect Apple to release both the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 in the same colour schemes as the iPhone 5s....

Few could have expected that Taika Waititi boarding the third Thor film would lead to one of Marvel Studios’ biggest hits yet. With the film arriving in international markets this weekend, however, Thor: Ragnarok is set for a massive global opening. When it hits domestic theaters next week, meanwhile, Thor 3 is estimated to earn over $100 million....

During a conference call with JPMorgan Chase investors today, executives announced that Chase Bank has activated over one million Apple Pay accounts since the service launched last year (via AppleInsider). The bank revealed some statistics about who’s using Apple Pay with their Chase cards, and how they’re using it. Chase found that the average Apple Pay user is nine years younger and makes 21% more money than its average customers. Apple Pay users also used their credit cards more often, and were more likely to add a credit card than a debit card to their account....

Chris Evans isn’t too eager about the idea of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers/Captain America, but he won’t rule it out either. As the Infinity Saga came to a close in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed Avengers: Endgame, it also marked the end of the journey for some of the universe’s most beloved heroes. However, unlike Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow and Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man, the Star Spangled Avenger actually survived the Thanos (Josh Brolin) debacle and lived a full life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell)....

SNL’s Kenan Thompson is about to embark on a new sitcom for NBC calling Saving Kenan, and Chris Rock is set to direct the pilot episode. The perpetually youthful Thompson turned 40-years-old last year, but he’s been in the public eye so long that it almost feels like he should be even older. That’s of course because Thompson began his acting career in 1993, at the tender age of 15. Thompson’s first movie role came in Disney sequel D2: The Mighty Ducks, although he didn’t truly become a star until he joined the cast of Nickelodeon’s All That in 1994....

Notably, the actor starred in Bong Joon-ho’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic action thriller Snowpiercer as the leader of a rebellion aboard a futuristic train that serves as humanity’s last refuge from a world ravaged by global warming....

Chris Rock says his Saw movie reboot will definitely include some humor, but is still a proper horror film with plenty of blood and gore. Like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, it seems the Saw movies are incapable of staying permanently dead. The franchise appeared to reach it end (after an unexpected six sequels) with 2010’s Saw: The Final Chapter, only to return in 2017 with a brand-new installment known as Jigsaw....

The latest data on U.S. iPhone sales from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) illustrates the ‘pause’ in iPhone sales described by Apple CEO Tim Cook in the most recent earnings call. The company’s data indicates that the iPhone 6s/Plus accounts for the largest proportion of models owned, at 34%, with the original iPhone 6/Plus just behind at 33%. The Phone 7/Plus, in contrast, sits at 26%. While CIRP puts forward a number of possible explanations for this slowing growth, Cook blamed it primarily on one factor …...

Clayne Crawford will make his return to television, signing on to star in an upcoming installment of Hulu’s horror-anthology series Into the Dark. Crawford previously starred as Martin Riggs in Fox’s small-screen adaptation of the Lethal Weapon franchise. Despite initial skepticism, the series achieved solid ratings and managed to garner a passionate fanbase. Following reports of behind-the-scenes turmoil, however, Crawford was fired from the show and the character of Riggs was killed off at the end of season 2....

In just a few days, Apple will unveil the next generation of iPhones with the iPhone 14 series. Last-minute rumors say the company will ditch the notch for the iPhone Pro models and go with a hole-punch + pill cutout that will look like a pill. A report acknowledges that this new design could bring back the classic battery indicator on the status bar. With iOS 16 beta 5, Apple added the iPhone’s battery percentage inside the battery icon....

England based designer Hector Simpson has created a beautiful set of new wallpapers for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS inspired by the classic blue wave designs that were a staple in early versions of Mac OS X. The set is called “Aquex” – clearly an homage to aqua. Simpson has designed a wide array of options that use color schemes from more recent versions of macOS as well. The best part, though, is that there are dynamic wallpapers that change throughout the day....

Earlier this month, we reported that China Telecom earned the necessary approvals to launch the iPhone 4S on China’s third-largest carrier. Today, the China Telecom subsidiary Beijing Telecom issued a press release (via China Daily) and said the Beijing-based company will launch the iPhone 4S as early as the end of February or beginning of March. A CDMA version of the iPhone 4S will launch on the network. The press release gave no word on pricing for the device, but it will likely fall in line with the other networks....

John Sundell has secured yet another notable guest for his informative “Swift by Sundell” podcast. This time around, Chris Lattner has joined the show. Lattner created Apple’s Swift programming language before briefly joining Tesla and eventually ending up at Google. Lattner has had a storied career in the tech industry. He joined Apple in 2005 and worked on a variety of the company’s developer-oriented tools and languages. He rose to become Apple’s head of developer tools and led the development of Xcode for a long time, and created its Swift programming language....

Google Chrome, is a widely used and popular web browsing app both for the smartphones as well as the desktops. There are a lot of updates that previously was brought in by Google for its browser to enhance the features and functionality of the Chrome browser. And keeping up with it Google has pushed another update for the Chrome 77 that brings Tab Groupings, Theming Options and Previews on board. Surprisingly, some of the features of this update has already been there on other browsers for some time....

A spinoff from the popular Chicago Fire TV show, Chicago P.D. focuses on a police intelligence unit run by Detective Sergeant Henry “Hank” Voight. Introduced as a dirty cop in Chicago Fire, he uses the same morally questionable methods to catch criminals and other more corrupt cops which the other members of his unit practice as well. For this reason, the Chicago P.D. series has been heavily criticized for its inaccuracies about police work in general....

A Chinese spy carrying out industrial espionage against GE Aviation and Honeywell’s aerospace division was caught with the help of access to an iCloud backup of his iPhone. The data obtained included a never-before-seen copy of a security form used by the Chinese security service when recruiting spies. Xu Yanjun, an officer in China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) was arrested and brought to trial in the US after investigators lured him out of the country to a meeting in Belgium, from where he was extradited to America …...
