Just a few days following the debut of Chrome 56 on the desktop, Google has started pushing the same new version to iOS users. While not a major update, this new version does bring along a couple of useful features, including a handy QR code scanner. Chrome isn’t exactly the first app I’d expect to find a built-in QR scanner in, but it seems pretty useful nonetheless. By accessing the 3D Touch menu for Chrome on compatible iPhones, users can quickly access a QR reader which will then open up scanned links via Google’s browser....
There have been multiple attempts to create a Nintendo 3DS emulator for Android. However, the emulators suffered from performance issues and other bugs. Previously, an unofficial port for Citra was made available on Android. And now, thanks to a team of dedicated developers, the official Citra 3DS Emulator for Android is now available. In Citra’s official blog post, they do specify that the application is still in beta. “So, while we have tried to squash the bugs we’ve come across, you may still run into the occasional glitch....
Charlize Theron has played all kinds of characters. She’s played a real-life serial killer, a post-apocalyptic warrior, a Presidential hopeful, a double agent in the Cold War, an evil queen – clearly, she has some kind of range. She’s starred in a couple of movies that the critics weren’t so kind to, like Seth MacFarlane’s Western parody A Million Ways to Die in the West, which is quite unjust. The movie may not be amazing, but is arguably much funnier than some critics make out....
Sideshow Collectibles revealed an awesome-looking Aquaman figure from Hot Toys. Jason Momoa will make his debut as the heir to the throne of Atlantis in November’s Justice League, but the ensemble adventure is only setting him up to star in the Aquaman solo film in 2018. There have already been plenty of looks at Momoa in his full Aquaman suit via trailers and photos, but not a whole lot in the way of merchandise....
A new report today from analysts at Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) details that Apple and Google are nearing parity in terms of new smartphone buyers in the United States. According to the data, Android and iOS each accounted for 50% of new smartphone activations during the second calendar quarter of 2021. “CIRP estimates for customers that acquired a new phone in the year ending this quarter, Google Android and Apple iOS each had 50% of the new activations,” the analysts say....
If you’re using an older iPhone or iPad and wondering why the Chess.com app isn’t working, it’s nothing to do with iOS 11: it’s because the total game counter has hit the magic number of 2,147,483,647 … This is the maximum value for a 32-bit integer, so 32-bit devices can’t cope with the fact that the app now needs to display a higher number of games. The developer says that it plans to have a fix out within 48 hours, and that players can use the web version in the meantime to continue their games....

Three different civil liberties groups are backing Apple in its refusal to create a weakened version of iOS to allow the FBI access to two iPhones used by the Pensacola shooter. They support Apple’s position that compromising iPhone encryption would be a far greater risk to national security than not gaining access to the phones… Background History repeated itself when the FBI asked Apple to unlock two iPhones belonging to the suspected shooter at the Pensacola Naval Air Station – the same demand it made in the San Bernardino case....
Chiwetel Ejiofor is reportedly circling a key role in Disney’s live-action fairy tale movie sequel, Maleficent 2. The Maleficent sequel first entered development back in 2015, but didn’t really pick up speed until Angelina Jolie confirmed her return as the eponymous character late last summer. Things appear to be rolling along at a steady pace now, with Maleficent 2 having added Ed Skrein (Deadpool), Harris Dickinson (Trust), and Michelle Pfeiffer to its cast over the last month alone....
Chris Evans is hoping that Captain Marvel and Black Widow experience the same success as Black Panther. Marvel Studios just released their eighteenth movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in theaters, and the early results are astonishing. Surpassing almost every lofty expectation, Black Panther is set to be Marvel’s second biggest opening ever. The accolades come with raving reviews, but also on a movie that pushes a diverse cast and crew - better representing the world at large....
Why hasn’t there been a Chrono Trigger remake? With the advent of the newly-designed Final Fantasy VII, this isn’t an unreasonable question. While Final Fantasy games have traditionally been more popular, Chrono Trigger was the 20th most-popular game for the Super Nintendo (and the 9th most-popular that wasn’t shipped with the system at some point). Simply put, it has earned its place in history, and it was released by Squaresoft and Enix pre-merger more than a quarter-century ago....
French site NWE has posted photos from Japan of what it claims is the Touch ID sensor for the iPhone 6. The photos don’t give anything away, with the only visible differences being in the location of screw holes – which is to be expected given the significant redesign of the new model iPhone. There have been rumors that Apple has made changes to the Touch ID sensor to improve durability, but there’s nothing here to shed any light either way....
Christian Bale’s research for his role as Dick Cheney in Vice ended up saving director Adam McKay from a recent heart attack. The latest effort from the Big Short helmsman chronicles Cheney’s rise up the political ladder, culminating with him becoming arguably the most powerful vice president in the history of the United States. Vice doesn’t open in theaters until Christmas Day, but early screenings have indicated it’s a well-written and exceptionally acted exploration of its subject matter, putting it in the thick of several races this Oscar season....
In a few words, this tool developed by Google itself is perfectly compatible with Chrome browsers and computers that run on Chrome OS. As long as the platform comes with the browser installed, the Remote Desktop tool will work. Relationships are hard, even fictional ones, as fans of Supergirl recently discovered when fan-favorite couple Alex Danvers and Maggie Sawyer – i.e., Sanvers – decided to end their romance on the most recent episode of the series, adding to the season 3 theme of heartache in the wake of Kara and Mon-El’s very different, but no-less emotional, separation. The end of Sanvers came with the fifth episode of the season, ‘Damage’, directed by Kevin Smith, whom Chyler Leigh (the Danvers half of the couple) says played a key role in preparing the actors for the emotionally trying work of bringing an important relationship to an end....
A claimed schematic of the 4.7-inch model of the iPhone 6 appears to support suggestions that the camera lens will protrude, though only by 0.77mm. Posted by Apple Club in Taiwan, it appears to show a 7mm thick casing with the thickest part of the camera extending 0.77mm beyond this. Suggestions that the quest for thinness might result in an iPod Touch-style protruding camera lens on the iPhone 6 date back to March, and have been supported by claimed backplate photos as recently as this month....

A Chinese carrier has sent out an interesting photo on its Weibo feed earlier today, as spotted by iGen.fr. The note very clearly alludes to an as-yet-unannounced red iPhone color, with a pun of the word Ready. The idea of a red iPhone has been rumored before and it’s something that doesn’t really justify a dedicated Apple product event. That being said, Chinese retailers have been known to play fast and loose with their marketing often teasing Apple product announcements that never see the light of day....
