A designer/developer has created an iPhone app that recreates the UI of a click wheel iPod Classic, right down to haptic feedback and click sounds … Elvin Hu blended it with a Cover Flow album view above the click wheel. He tweeted a short video of the app (below), which is still a work in progress, and told The Verge what inspired the project. The NY Times reports that the Chinese government has adopted a set of supposed cybersecurity regulations on western companies selling technology to banks. These requirements are so absurd that it would be impossible for companies like Apple to comply. The paper reports that while the regulations are so far limited to sales to Chinese banks, they are merely the first in a series of new cybersecurity policies expected to be introduced in the coming months, and businesses fear that they are designed to protect local manufacturers from western companies....

Global chip shortages could last significantly longer than expected, continuing until at least the middle of next year, and possibly into 2023. The warning was given by contract manufacturing giant Flex … The Financial Times reports. A report jointly commissioned by Uber and Lyft has revealed that ride-sharing companies create significantly more city-center congestion than they’d predicted… Uber, Lyft, and others have partly sold their services on the premise that ride-sharing services will lead to fewer people driving their own cars and therefore reducing city center congestion. TSMC has announced that its August revenues have increased 28% sequentially thanks to ‘robust’ shipments of 10nm chips – which include the A11 chip used in this year’s iPhones … While the year-on-year rise to date is a more modest 2.6%, the company is forecasting another record year, estimating that total year revenue will be up 5-10% on 2016, reports Digitimes. Its production of chips using the 10nm process accounted for 10% of total revenues last month, up from just 1% in the previous quarter....
